Variable Aperture VS Fixed Aperture

The first time I found out that I had a lens with a variable aperture, I quickly jumped on a search to find something with a fixed aperture. Reason for this is most variable aperture lenses aren't gonna give you that desirable blurry background and preform worse in low light.

Variable aperture lenses are fairly inexpensive which is why a lot of beginner photographers and videographers end up shooting with those. But dang I love fixed aperture lenses and would heavily recommend them if you have the budget. Alternatively, you can opt for prime lenses (no zoom) since they usually have a nice low F-Stop at a more affordable price. A great prime lens to start with for beginners is a 50mm f1.8 (all camera brands have one like this)

So to summarize, variable aperture lenses have an F-Stop that increases when zooming, while fixed aperture lenses can keep the same low F-Stop while zooming making them a lot more versatile and all around better.

I don't have a camera but say if a lens has a fixed 2.8 aperture and no aperture ring, can we change it ? or is it just stuck at 2.8 ?
