The Sound of Nature: music in the spirit of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 Pastoral | Music Documentary

“The Sound of Nature” is about music and nature, in Beethoven's "Pastoral" as well as in the present day. Daniel Hope, President of the Beethoven-Haus Society Bonn, tells you about the brilliant interplay of music and the sounds of nature in Beethoven's Sixth Symphony. And you'll meet five different musicians and ensembles on five continents whose work also addresses the issues of nature and the environment. They include:

- Australian violist and composer Brett Dean, who wrote his own “Pastoral Symphony,” a modern answer to Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony.
- Grammy-winning Indian film music composer Ricky Kej, who arranged Beethoven’s “Pastoral” for a traditional Indian ensemble.
- Ethiopian pop singer Betty G, who shares with Beethoven the love of nature and works as a role model to protect the environment.
- The Icelandic jazz band ADHD, who get inspiration from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in being mindful of their responsibility towards nature.
- And the Colombian band Aterciopelados, who are activists for a better world and who treasure Beethoven as well as Mother Nature.

How does the music of these artists resonate at a time where the world faces climate change and environmental devastation?

Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, the “Pastoral,” is the starting point for the worldwide Beethoven Pastoral Project. On the occasion of Beethoven's 250th birthday, the Beethoven Jubiläums GmbH and the UN Climate Change Secretariat have launched the Beethoven Pastoral Project to call on creative people around the world to be inspired by Beethoven's “Pastoral” and set an example for climate protection.
