Everyone who knew Eivør before watching your reaction was like "Wait for it..." :D

Eivor helped send my father's soul to Valhalla when he passed in 2020. She sang at our request so he could find his way, I'll always be grateful. She is incredible

I know and understand why you would think this is an ancient folk song, but it’s NOT! She wrote this herself, it just feels really ancient That’s how powerful her music is!

Maybe somenone already mentionned it, the "drum-voice" she's using looks like it's very much inspired by Inuuk throat singing from Greenland and Canada, and other similar forms of throat singing from Siberia. Basically, the indigenous people from these places have developped this singing by imitating the sounds and breathing of reindeers, it also has a connection with shamanism, and it is mostly practiced by women. This technique has been brought to a larger audience through the collab between Björk and Tanya Tagaq on the Björk album Medulla. I hope this can be of use to someone. Thanks for this beautiful video!!

“I’ve got chills. What sorcery is this?”

Well, Trøllabundin roughly means spellbound.

Eivor’s voice is haunting. All the Norse mythology lives in her throat ✨

"Just her voice and a drum right now" and this is precisely when Eivor is at her best.

As a fellow faroese I must say that this was a pleasure to watch. She is unique🥳 This recording is from Norway at a farm called Stigen, located by the magnificent Aurlandsfjorden.

The reason I love YouTube. Back in the 80’s I never had exposure to such beautiful things. The things most of this generation take for granted, well they don’t understand that we had to go to a library to learn about most things, needless to say I didn’t know much. 😂 thank you universe for all this knowledge and exposure.

Discovered this lady because of the tv series 'The last kingdom', based on the great books by Bernard Cornwell....books and tv series HIGHLY recommended! Now I love Eivør too....bought the series soundtrack and this last weekend 2 of her rest will follow.

This concert with Eivør was in a place called Stigen in Aurlandsfjorden. I had the pleasure of being present at the concert. On this beautiful Stigen, this concert was a heavenly journey, with Eivør and Vamp.

Anthropologist here: there is indeed a hypothesis called the Uralo-Siberian Hypothesis that indigenous North Europeans have a common heritage with indigenous Americans who may have walked freely across the ice sheets during the last ice age. There are several similarities between Inuit and Finnish languages for example. If true it makes sense that singing styles could have strong similarities also.

"I've got shivers, and I don't understand why!"
In another clip of this song (there are many on YT), somebody in the comments put it best:

Ever feel homesick for a place you've never been to?

When she stops and just listens at 12:00 is perfect… like how do you not just lose all other functions other than your ears at that point? I swear I cry every time that part comes up 😅

You get chills because it's not just a voice. It's energy talking to your cells!

You should react/analyze some kulning (Scandinavian herding call/singing). Jonna Jinton has several nice videos of her doing kulning

“Phonation just requires your vocal chords to go ‘waka-waka-waka’.”

Me: Ahh, hmmm. [scribbles notes furiously]

We don't have any throat singing in our culture, but you will notice that people speak a lot while inhaling on a daily basis. It wasn't until I moved abroad that I realized it wasn't a common thing, and almost unique to the Faroe Islands.

Eivør is a national treasure, and it makes me proud and oh so homesick to see her on these kind of reaction videos.

I love Heilung, Wardruna, etc. but Eivor is in another league with her vocal talent. She and a composer named John Lunn do the music for the show Last Kingdom. It's haunting and beautiful.

Saw her live as warm-up for Heilung yesterday. Absolutely amazing.
