The Canon EOS 70d. Is it any good in 2022?

Just my thoughts on the old master of YouTube video, the 70d. I was able to borrow my friend's 70d for a while so I thought why not make a video about it in 2022. Spoiler alert! it's a great camera and is more than capable in today's photography market. It is even a great photographer's YouTube camera. Thanks for watching.

I just pulled the trigger on a 70D yesterday, showing up this weekend. It’s my first personal camera, and the first DSLR I’ll ever have used for more than a couple auto focus shots. Appreciate the hell out of your thoughts on it!

I picked up a 20D a few months ago as my first prosumer camera. It’s been a blast to shoot with but it’s hard to tell if I’ve dialed in my exposure triangle correctly on the 1.8 in LCD display. Its limitations have been a fun challenge. If you’re looking to get into photography, the 20D still takes fantastic pictures and you’ll appreciate its simplicity. That being said, this is a great review of a potential upgrade path for the photography curious looking to make it into a lifelong hobby.

Canon 70D was a great camera which I loved. But didn't know it's so susceptible to use of the video option! I enjoyed recording videos with it for short durations. But then, the main-board got injured and started giving frequent trouble. Finally, I switched off both video and live view options and sold it out at throw-away price mentioning the issues to the customer.

Now, I've bought a 90D. Wondering how it will behave!

Most video intros suck. Yours was awesome!! Love the showing of all you personallys. Perfect video about the 70D. I got out of filming/shooting and wanted to get back going, but not wanting to up my gear straight out of the gate.

Bought mine years ago when they were new. I am NOT a photographer but used it to shoot our studio commercial 'FAQ' Video series on our website. Super local, small hair studio but loved it. Of course I can only compare it to... it. Hahaha Just took it back out to reso our series. Been a great camera but man it's hard... for a non-pro... to not just use our S24 phones. Crazy good cameras for the non pro.

I don’t know how anyone could say the 80d isn’t as good. I have the 70d finally looking to upgrade (probably mirrorless) but I’ve used the 80d and it just feels better

I have always liked to have the first version of everything. I feel like that is where the producers put in the most effort, the first version...then they just make minor changes. And not always in the rigth direction. I have the 7D, 6D, 5D MK2 (the MK2 because of the video) and the first EOS-M. With software upgrades, they are more than good enough. Every camera is a compromise anyways. :) Fun fact, I'm an employed potographer and photo teacher. I use the 5D for studio work...and the 6D, the 70D for wildlife, sports and so on. And for video. 1080P 24 FPS is more than good enough. The EOS-M is more something I just carry around. :)

Used the 50D, the 70D and now the 90D. Let's just say Canon's APSC DSLR cameras just keep getting better and better. I can't see myself jumping to the 'R' line... Not seeing a 3x improvement in image IQ to justify the price.

Hey Joe, amazing video, thank you so much! I have a 70d and really wanted to record YouTube videos with it - very similar to your setting. Your video looks seriously impressive in comparison to what I managed to film. Unfortunately I don't know how to use the manual settings, and the image turns up a bit granulated, dark and the image quality just looks deteriorated overall. Do you mind sharing what type of light did you use to make the image look good? Also, any tips on the camera settings? Any help would be massively appreciated and thanks a lot for the video once again!

I have the 70D! Not a professional, but have always loved taking photos. Struggling with getting a newer camera, but there’s nothing wrong with my camera. I want a great zoom lens for wildlife but not sure what would be a good one and worrying if I spend a good bit on a zoom lens will this camera even be able to do what’s needed to get sharp photos. Any suggestions? Am I overthinking? Will a newer zoom lens still produced great photos with the 70D? Any suggestions on a zoom lens 400 -600 range?

Thanks Joe, I had the 70D and gave it away and now I was looking at the 80d or the 90d but why go crazy when you can get almost the same tech for 1/4 the price? TY again!
