one quick question, if the data is not in asc/desc order, retrieving 1st row is not correct, in that case how to check max(date) in the dataset using lookup ?

i have a doubt look up activity retrieve the dataset present in the source ...and the getmetadata activity with childitem type also retrieve same then what is the difference between them .,
