The Tour Model II irons were my first set of golf clubs back in 1990. They were Ping Eye 2 clones. Had a full set including the 1-iron. They were actually pretty good irons for the time. Irons today are stronger lofted than 30-40 years ago. Today's 7-iron has the same loft as a 5- or 6-iron from back then, but has better weighting to launch the ball higher. Golf balls spun much more back then - but they had to in order to get the ball up in the air with the smaller heads on woods. You guys should try to get your hands on some balata balls or Titleist Tour Professional balls from the 1990's (before the Pro V1 came out around 2000). They spun like crazy. Great video!

Modern clubs advantage over older clubs is primarily in the area of game improvement. They help the average golfer get a better result on off center strikes. Garrett is way above average and hits the ball more in the center of the club face more than most of us. The difference for Garrett between modern clubs and those old clubs is not as much as it would be for most of us. That said the old persimmon drivers were definitely WAY harder to hit than modern drivers. Back in the 80’s - 90’s I tees off with a 3 wood as I hit it way more solidly than my persimmon driver. BTW, I have a mint Titleist 1970’s persimmon driver if someone wants it. Pay the shipping and it’s yours.

That’s right, Garrett, the game is growing and I hope you know that you and the boys are significant to that growth. Your content is allowing players of all ages to view the game in a much different light. Keep up the entertaining videos and especially keep having fun.
