'O Deutschland Hoch in Ehren' - German Patriotic Anthem

A patriotic German song made in 1859 just before German unification, it was one of the most popular patriotic songs of its time and was in use well into the Weimar Republic, however after the 40s the song fell out of use due to uhhh... well, you know.

Meine Oma ist 1945 aus Schlesien geflohen, da war sie 17. Sie kam nach Sachsen und war im Dorf das böse Flüchtlingsmädchen. Deutsche welche Deutsche wegen ihrer Herkunft diskriminierten, habe ich auch schon von anderen gehört. Als Mädchen hätte sie den Hof ihrer Eltern sowieso verlassen müssen, da dieser immer der erst geborene Sohn bekam. Nach 1990 ging sie in ihre alte Heimat, besuchte diesen Hof und stand am Zauntor. Sie gab den Leuten selbst gebackene Keckse, ein alten Foto von diesem Ort und freute sich das es noch gepflegt wurde. Sie hatte keine Absichten dieses Land wieder für sich zu beanspruchen, sie hatte erst in Sachsen und später in Brandenburg mit einem zweiten Mann ein neues Leben gehabt. 2014 starb sie mit 86. Ruhe in Frieden Oma und Frieden allen Menschen anstatt Krieg wegen dem Boden auf den wir leben.

I'm a Pole with some German ancestry in me and I'm not sure why but this particular version of the song made me cry my heart out. Something about the way its sung is just so emotion-evoking it brought me to my core. It's beautiful, almost like one family singing about how they want to stay together and united through hard times. I only hope to see the same burning pride and honour the Germans had resurrected today. Gott mitt uns
