How deep is the lid to the upper shelf? I want to also store a few guitar pedals on the upper shelf without having to remove it

I do not recommend this case unless you’re about 6’ 3”. The shelf flips back and it’s not adjustable so it’s really hard on your back if you’re not really tall. The case is well built but the foam inside is not well thought out. I have a DDJ SRT 1000 and it does not stay level plus wires and corners are tearing up the foam. I reached out to Gator as soon as I got the case but all I ever got was lip service.
