A new research now says that nearly 1.81 billion people are directly exposed to severe floods. Nearly 90% of exposed people live in developing nations. Most vulnerable population are in South and East Asia. China & India account for a third of the exposed population.

Global Hunger Index ranks India at 101 out of 116 countries

The Global Hunger Index launched on Thursday ranked India at 101 position out of a total 116 countries. India is also among the 31 countries where hunger has been identified as serious. India ranked 94 among 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) released last year.
Only 15 countries fare worse than India. These include Papua New Guinea (102), Afghanistan (103), Nigeria (103), Congo (105), Mozambique (106), Sierra Leone (106), Timor-Leste (108), Haiti (109), Liberia (110), Madagascar (111), Democratic Republic of Congo (112), Chad (113), Central African Republic (114), Yemen (115) and Somalia (116).
India was also behind most of the neighbouring countries. Pakistan was placed at 92 rank, Nepal at 76 and Bangladesh also at 76.

A flood is a flood, rich and poor countries are equally exposed to flood. Self reliant countries can pull it off whereas the poor aid dependent corrupt countries will be hard hit by the consequences. Don't blame the rich countries, blame the poor aid dependent countries. Who is to blame for draught in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya? WION attributes it to climate change not to aid dependent corrupt terrorist organization such as in northern Ethiopia.

Modi announced his plans for the statue in 2010, when he was still chief minister of Gujarat, and its foundation was laid in 2013. During its construction, the $400 million project ran into many controversies, not least of which was how much this new landmark of Indian patriotism owes China. The bronze cladding work was contracted out by Larsen & Toubro, the engineering firm that has built the statue and surrounding complex, to Chinese foundry Jiangxi Tongqing Metal Handicrafts. Chinese workers traveled to India to help lay the cladding.
Larsen & Toubro, according to a person in India who was involved in the project, considered foundries globally and within India before settling on a Chinese foundry. Given the execution challenges and strict timeline, it was decided that there was “no point in experimenting with new players, ” he said.
