This video focuses on the MOXIE experiment which is included as part of the Perseverance Mars 2020 Rover. The experiment will use a process called electrolysis to split carbon dioxide to produce oxygen. If successful, NASA could produce a larger version to support human exploration of Mars.

MOXIE has now been successfully tested on Mars. The successful test along with the successful test flights of Ingenuity are very exciting developments in our exploration of Mars.

Great video! Just one question… don’t you need a solution or a liquid for electrolysis? Do they turn CO2 into a liquid state or is there something else I’m not aware of?

Would it be possible to do the reaction CO2 -> C + O2?

I have been watching the Perserverence Rover with great interest. I only learned about the MOXIE unit a few days ago. Fascinated by this little experimental device. Could be a game-changer. Maybe another video once data from this experiment is released. Really interesting video thank you 👍

I know at the level it would not be relevant. But in a long run wouldn't it shift the amount of CO in the atmosphere?

Won’t the carbon monoxide be toxic to breathe?

Nice explanation! Corban monoxide is not got for Human and environment right? So this is a waste produced in this process. Is there anyway to utilize this Corban monoxide? If we produce this in large scale then it will be a disaster.

O2 and CO need separation, and the separation needs to be amazing! no more than 10 parts per million, or 99.999%. Also you need a scrubber to capture exhaled CO2

The best way to create oxygen through trees isn’t it? That would be permanent solution. Is it possible to do that in Mars ? Just curious to know
