I needed this tool one time. I end up going to Walmart and found some very small file kit it was like 10 pm on a Saturday. It was a pain but it worked

What an interesting design. With conventional taps or thread chasers, the challenge is to start it correctly so when you meet up with the deeper good threads you're in line. As shown here, you can't always start from the other end and work out. With this, your teeth provide that alignment up front. I can see how this tool would be worth having, although the cost and rare indication gives pause. In the past I've used thread files which seem to work OK but not great.

Lock nut came loose and damaged lock nut threads on my harleys transmission. i was about take out the whole transmission. This might save alot of $. Besides ...with worldwide supply shortages and inflation going higher with no end in sight...the time to buy useful tools to fix instead of replacing a part, is now. Thank for the demo!

Well, if the dies are made of case hardened mild steel, they are the same steel as dies are made of. And some dies are made the same way. I machined the teeth on thousands of those inserts when working for OTC.
