Who will stop the madness of this war immediately?

To answer this question, I have written a song that is guaranteed not to be on the radio - "Turn The Wind".

Because this is exactly the issue:
If we don't force a shift in the prevailing winds of our time, the culture and values we have struggled for will be blown away. In this case, the answer is not just blowing in the wind, it is the wind of the Zeitgeist itself, which must be redirected.

Along with many others, I’m sure, I expected that three month later things would have taken a turn for the better.

But it’s become obvious to me, and many others, that we need to redouble our efforts together to create a wind of change leading to better options for action in the face of this human and moral disaster. Our Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock calls for a "values-based foreign policy." A noble sentiment, indeed, but a bit of a slippery slope. Values lead to morals and moral questions to absolutes—for example, Have we done everything possible to stop this horror of murder and destruction? Look your children in the eye and try to answer yes to this. I cannot.

Politics are involved here, so perhaps we should lower the bar and ask only if we have done everything reasonable, practical, or even, God help us, politically possible. I still have trouble looking my children in the eye and affirming this, let alone looking at myself in the mirror.

The consequences of this war are now spreading to include an inability for many places to recover from the global economic crisis caused by Covid. These consequences, now exacerbated by the war, vary depending on socio-economic position and geographical location. For the sake of our children, and for those who will suffer, or are suffering now, disproportionately, we need to ask ourselves the same question about the onset of these devastating problems ranging from loss of prosperity to devastating famines.

As things stand today, we will have substantial difficulties in answering even the “low-bar” questions for our children—or for anyone—in a values-based and generationally-appropriate manner. Therefore, we need to discuss these issues openly and find the courage to mobilize the best, most effective ways to peace, stability, and a values-based policy that does not accept double standards.

Let us stand together to stop this senseless tragedy now by bringing our core values to the forefront. Freedom knows no alternative!

These ideas provide the impetus and concepts behind my song “Turn the Wind.”
