Earthship 101

An Earthship is a type of passive solar house that is made of both natural and upcycled materials (such as earth-packed tires). Earthships can be completely off-grid or partially off-grid.

Earthships can be built in any part of the world, in any climate (with a permit) and still provide electricity, potable water, contained sewage treatment and sustainable food production.

Earthships are thermal mass homes first, passive solar homes second.

Whatever temperature goes into an Earthship, it will hold… and since it is also a Passive Solar House, it is also very tight and interacts only with the sun and the earth for heating and cooling, providing stable comfort year round in any climate.

Absolutely wonderful. Exactly how environmental impact should be rated and compared against. I would also say the other integration of natural materials and local supplies. The garbage around us is becoming local supplies and native materials as we continue polluting our environment and surroundings. Our local communities could be self sustaining due to our overwhelming consumption. I can't wait to attend this academy with a friend that invited me.

I personally believe Mr. Reynolds is a genius ( nothing short ) ! Having said that I would love to own one on the land I already own . There's several obstacles to that, however. Not the least being the building permit . l won't go down the list, it's too long . Bottom line, for Me they are too EXPENSIVE ! I'M too old to pound dirt ! My Wife wouldn't live in it, I probably wouldn't live long enough to get enough enjoyment out of it, for it to be worthwhile ! When I was the same age as the People I see building these on utube videos, I never heard of a earthship !

I’m curious as to how the fruits and vegetables grown in the earthships are pollinated. Is it by hand or there a way to incorporate pollinators
