Predator 3500 Generator Wheel Removal + Wheel Mod Idea

The reason I made this video is when I was researching this generator I knew I wanted to upgrade the small wheels it came with but I was unable to find any videos of just taking the wheels off this unit. The whole point of the project is to make a wheel kit that did not modify the generator at all.
In the past I have used inflatable wheels which were always a pain to keep inflated so I went with the solid rubber tires. I got a deal at Harbor Freight for approx. 6 bucks a piece and I'm totally happy with them. The axles on this generator are welded on so changing that would take some effort and would void the warranty. I hope I helped you out...

Well in my case its same supplies but the difference in my, is that I use a Die set to make the coupler fit in to the original rod😊

Bought my Gen 2 weeks ago and finally yesterday I got it started up. I'm super impressed with it and it's amazingly quiet. Videos does it no justice to show just how quiet it really is!

I looked at same wheels at northern tool last night. I just hadn't figured out how to attach them. And you had the answer, so thanks bud!

Thanks for the video. I completed this mod yesterday and have a couple of comments.

I wasn't happy with how wide the whole set-up was so I cut 3/4" off of each axle and drilled through the threaded couplers and axle at the same time so that there was no worry about being centered. I ended up with the wheels being 1/4" off of the body of the generator. Of course, this voided my warranty but I don't really care. These things are pretty bullet proof after you get past the first 100 hours.

The other issue is, when you roll the cart and make any attempt to make turns, the wheel bolts unscrew from the coupler. Three options to correct this. 1, You can either drill through the couplers and bolts and pin them. 2, drill and tap one side of the coupler and install a set screw or 3, simply use RED Loctite on the bolts and let it sit overnight. The Locktite is working well for me.

One more Those threaded couplers come in different lengths. My local hardware store had them in 1.25" or 1.75". I chose the 1.75 and it looks like this video has the 1.75". The 1.25" connector wouldn't have very much support.

Completed this upgrade today. Zero mods to the actual generator. Worked great! I really appreciate the guidance as I went exactly by your instructions to include the Red Thread Locker. Really looking forward to the wheel lock video so that I can get that done next. Thanks a lot!!

Thanks for the upload. I did it using 10" pneumatic wheels. So much better and at $25, way better than the $150 kits online. What a rip off.

Thanks for the video. Followed your suggestions and it worked out well. Definitely better than the stock wheel. I used 6 inch wheels, 8 inch may have been better but no big deal. As I drilled out the couplers with my hand drill and vise I was wishing I had a drill press. Thanks again.

FYI EVERYONE WHO HAS HARD TIME RESTARTING THE PREDATOR 3500 WHEN ITS HOT OUTSIDE... All you have you have to do is remove the gas cap and it will start right up. Just needs to vent. Somehow it took me almost two summers to finally figure this out lol. . ALSO Jesus Christ delivered me from meth, adderall prescription, alcoholism, cigs etc in Sept 2014. No rehab or any other outside help! Just the Lord and His Word!! Eternal life in Jesus Christ alone. Make sure you seek and abide in Him!

Hi - quick question. Where did you get that slotted plate that you installed on the backside of the wheel? That looks like a critical piece to maintain the brake function. Kindly let me know. Thanks. Greta mod BTW!

Thanks brother for that info very helpful I seen other videos where they do welding the wheels on and all that but that's real simple and easy. What everything that's going on I am going to buy one of those generators did you get everything from Harbor Freight to do the job? That's my favorite store for a budget DIY person like me.

Thanks for sharing. What a. great idea! I'm going to do the same thing on mine. However, I noticed the foldable ladder that you have at the end of your video video. Can you please share where I can get them?

Just an idea i did and didn't see anyone in 30 videos i saw do. Lol
Buy harbor freight roll cart with handle that fits perfect with predator. Make a rectangle hole where oil would fall through for oil changes. Then put predator on top with 2 ratchet straps. Lock wheels. Put 2 small brackets to keep predator in place. Alot easier to roll over any surface. Elevating predator keeps air filter way cleaner. You'll never have to take off predator off the roll cart. On sale costs 21 bucks. Trust me a lot easier mobility and to work on. Your welcome lol jk

Can you tell me the total height of the predator with this mod using the 8” wheels? Concerned about my bed cover with the height addition of the wheels. Thanks

How many hours do you have on the Gen? Haven't seen any vids with more than 150hrs. Thanks

Thank you for the video. I performed this mod yesterday and it turned out perfect. I think my warrentee is about up so I tossed out the original wheels and am making a U shaped wheel chock out of an old rubber welcome mat. That should work fine as I don't camp much on hills.

Sir RightToBearArms32. Did you use "arbor extensions" from HDepot of HFreight. Did not see at HF. Love the mod and reason behind.
