Take Me To Church (Acoustic Cover)

I've had "Take Me To Church" by Hozier on repeat lately. Seriously both his EP's are amazing - if you haven't heard his music, you need to check it out. The lyrics of his songs go deeper than most.

Enter my good friend and fellow Nashville musician Matt Wright...with whom I've wanted to record a cover with for FOREVER. Once you hear his voice, you'll get why ;).

We sat around for an evening going through Spotify playlists and playing each other songs that we're currently in to...and this one just seemed to capture us both. Matt also happens to be a fantastic piano player, so we had some fun coming up with an arrangement.

This can be a difficult song to do right in a duet, but this is well done my friends! The only drawback I hear is the tone of voice the guy often uses, as it is too monotone or high. Hozier, while it is practically impossible to be close to his voice, used much more emotion (best word I could think of) than used by the pianist. Other than that, it was very good!

I'm just sitting here, browsing youtube on a wednesday night, and then unexpectedly come across this wonderful interpretation of a magnificent song! Love how both music and video maintain this intimate, almost sacred atmosphere throughout, abstaining from the usual posing (both visually and with regard to voice) that one encounters so often in such cover videos. I am really impressed and thankful!
