This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2022 Acura RDX compact premium SUV. What’s new for 2022? The RDX has a more sculpted exterior design drawing inspiration from the new MDX. The diamond pentagon front grille features a thinner chrome surround with a new front fascia making it appear wider. The back end receives a reshaped rear fascia with rectangular dual exhaust finishers on the two lower trims and rounded on A-Spec models. The integrated dynamics system has been updated and the available adaptive damper system delivers more response in sport mode and a more comfortable ride in comfort mode. The RDX has received extensive refinement updates with an enhanced active sound control system to reduce road noise and increase cabin quietness. All models come with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and there is now an available wireless charger, interior accent lighting and A-Spec models gain power-folding side mirrors, Advance trim in the US. The RDX has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission, 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque with standard AWD in Canada. In the US, FWD and AWD options are offered on three trims, the top two trims AWD only. Our Platinum Elite A-Spec test model in Liquid Carbon Metallic, a new colour for 2022 ups its game with a gloss black grille surround, 20” shark grey wheels and a red leather and ultra suede interior. The RDX comes with an impressive amount of standard features including a 10.2” display, leatherette upholstery, heated power driver and passenger seats, a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, 19” wheels and a spare tire. In the US, the heated steering wheel is standard on the Advance trim. The RDX gets 11L/100km, 22 MPG city and 8.6L/100km, 28 MPG highway. Acura recommends premium fuel, but you can use regular. In Canada with standard AWD the RDX starts at $45,800 CAD, Tech $49,100 CAD, A-Spec $52,600 CAD and Platinum Elite A-Spec $58,000 CAD. The base FWD model starts at $40,100 USD/AWD $42,300 USD, Tech FWD $42,750 USD/AWD $44,950 USD, A-Spec $45,750 USD, Advance $50,100 USD and A-Spec Advance $52,100 USD.

I hated the trackpad at first. Give it a chance, I think it’s the best interface ever. Very intuitive, can be used at a glance, and no reaching for touchscreen.

Most well rounded and best value in its segment

Just purchased the top trim in the States: 2022 RDX A-Spec Advance and loving it. I also took the Audi Q5 Sportback Premium Plus Black Optic for a spin on the same day. For the money, RDX was much better value IMO. I decided to go with a lease and the money factor for the Acura was half vs the rate I got for the Audi as well, so overall it was a no brainer for what I was looking for. I had to go with the this new gray color, only this, black, and blue were available at the time. Looks great! In a perfect world, I would have liked white and wish the rims were black and not dark gray - but I just did a lease, so I am still super happy with the color option I received. Tip for the touchpad - start in one of the corners with your finger and THEN navigate to the specific area you want to select, works much better that way I have found.

I have 2021 RDX Advance SH-AWD. After one year and 14, 000 miles of driving I have zero reliability problems. I really enjoy my RDX "sports car" like driving experience. The SH-AWD has incredible performant capabilities. Very comfortable seats. Good cargo space especially compared to the BMW and Mercedes. Very nice looking vehicle, style points.😎.Zach - I think the knob for the drive mode selection is purposley large so you can easily find it when driving. Thanks for all the great reviews.

Oh Honda you make me cry. I was such a fan. I owned a CRX Si, Civic Si, RSX, and then a TSX and then your styling went mental and apparently your build quality went on vacation. On paper, this is a hit, but much of the styling esp in the interior is still over the top. (And yes Andrea, my daughters noticed the jacket.). The eldest's new obsession is Converse high tops... so many colours and new designs... I laughed because I had to dig up a pic from the 80s showing her my old orange Chuck Taylors...

You guys are right on the infotainment. Pretty much makes the MDX a no buy for me, which is a shame because I like everything else about it. I love that liquid carbon metallic paint.

One change that hasn’t been mentioned by any Reviewers, as far as I know, applies to the A-Spec models. The Red Leather on the 2022 is now on the Center Console Armrest as well as the Door Armrests. The previous years had black leather on ALL the armrests. Wonder why no one is noticing that? Loved the review by the way.

As usual, great video. Thanks! I'm not sure about the MSRP's you're using, though. I know dealers tend to find a way to mark these up above and beyond MSRP, but your numbers compared to the 2023 models here in the US are $3, 000 less than what's listed here. For example, the 2023 FWD RDX A-Spec is starting at $48, 195 whereas your numbers from a year ago, state $45, 750 US. I know prices went up but wow, that's a $3, 000 increase over a year and for really, nothing any better or all that different. This puts this above what I'm willing to spend. If this was $40, 000 with a few options to add, that'be one thing, but this thing is fast approaching the $50, 000 mark and that's just too much.

Would be nice if for all your review you let us know if rear seat’s reclined or not.

Would be curious to see a head-to-head comparisons of value and pragmatism between a top trim non luxury brand suv vs a mid range semi luxury suv with comparable features.

In this day and age of high gas prices and perhaps having to choose between a lower trim semi luxury brand and a pragmatic higher trim non luxury brand, help us weave through the clutter and give us your thoughts.

Love your channel. Coffee and motormouth are what Saturday mornings are all about.

Where did Sport+ go as transmission selection option? I have 2019 RDX Aspec and it’s my favorite mode to drive in and helps in tight traffic on highway. Too hard on the engine so they got rid of it?

They need to get a Type S version released!

I’ve had the RDX for three weeks and I already like the touch pad better than the touch screen on my Porsche. It’s a non issue.

My lease just ended on this. Got an X3 to replace it. Should have re-leased the RDX. Alot of the quality complaints are coming from the infotainment which honestly is subpar

Won’t Acura’s plan to switch to EV only put the kaibosch on this desirable vehicle? Is there a RDX EV replacement? I’m guessing won’t have this nice 10 speed transmission. Not a happy camper. 🙁
