finding this was harder than finding Blake's brother

*Lyrics* (by ear, because I couldn't find the exact version of this anywhere):

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
I'm travelling through this world of woe
Yet there's no sickness, toil nor danger
In that bright land to which I go

I'm going there to see my Father
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home

I know dark clouds will gather 'round me
I know my way is rough and steep
But golden fields lie just before me
Where God's redeemed shall ever sleep

I'm going home to see my mother
And all my loved ones who've gone on
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home

I'll soon be free from every trial
My body sleep in the churchyard
I'll drop the cross of self denial
And enter on my great reward

I'm going there to see my Saviour
To sing his praise for evermore
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home

(Note: The difference between the movie version and this version are the last two stanzas of this version which are more pious here.)

"Schofield stops on the edge of the clearing.
Unsettled by the
world before him.
Unsure if these men are living or dead. If he is one of these ghosts.
He leans against a tree and slumps down on the outskirts of
the group.
The music washes over him.
Dawn is breaking.
He closes his eyes.
Done."

This song is so haunting now that I've seen 1917. Seeing Schofield lay against the tree and hearing this was something special when I saw this movie.

“See what?”

“White shores, and beyond... a far green country.”

I've never seen something more emotionally than this part in film. After watching 1917 I absolutely revived my think about war, problems and anyway everything. I've cried with a characters, I've felt, what not a soldier can die, I felt that I can die at this moment. Amazing, I have never seen something more exciting than 1917.

A masterpiece. The film. The soundtrack. Genuinely awe inspiring.

Seeing so much of JRR Tolkien's LOTR in this film. This reminds me of the elves in the wood scene and Blake and Schofield's journey like Frodo's and Sam's. Add to that the Mines of Moria and the Dead Marshes! :)
