Here are my top 5 tips every Makeup Artist should follow to grow on social media:

1. Start posting and be consistent: Your first post will be your worst post. Don’t believe me? Scroll down on my feed. But don’t get scared, just like applying makeup creating content gets so much better as you practice more. So, if you are a beginner who’s looking to grow, start posting consistently. You will thank me later.

2. Be aware of the big trends: No I’m not talking about the funny dances on TikTok, what I’m talking about is trends in the platforms. For example, 10 years ago it was enough to post before and after pics on Instagram and get clients, but nowadays Instagram is a video platform, so a quick high-quality reel showcasing your work will reach a bigger audience than pictures.

3. Don’t put filters and don’t over-edit makeup pics: A little lighting and contrast adjustments are okay but don’t over-edit or put a ton of filters on your makeup pics or videos. Your audience wants to see your work, not the newest TikTok filter.

4. Shoot with good lighting: I can’t stress this enough. Filming with a good light is a necessity for a good video. If you film your clients in a dark hotel room or outside under the direct sun, your makeup application will look blurry or washed out, so invest in a good portable light and try to film mostly indoors.

5. Last and most important point: Deliver value and educate your clients with your content. Videos of your work will only get you so far. To grow your social media at a rapid pace, you need to answer your clients questions or break their false beliefs about your services. Talk about how to choose a makeup artist, how to achieve a certain look, what’s the best look for someone’s face or skin type, etc. Educating and providing value is what will take you to the next level in your business.

Over the years creating social media content has become my biggest money-making activity in my business, and the sooner you realize this for yourself the faster your business will grow.
