Notice how Vin Scully knows when to shut the hell up and let the moment happen without commentary. At the catch, he says "Dwight Clark", and then let the crowd tell the story. Mark of a great announcer.
I was lucky to grow up in Los Angeles when he did play-by-play for the Dodgers. Greatest announcer ever.
RIP, Vin.

and somewhere in the crowd, a 4 year old legend to be is cheering to his idol. an amazing time in football hands down.

This play ended the old era of football and began a new one we’re still in. Bill Walsh, joe Montana, Dwight Clark. Y’all really changed the game

I know a lot of people try to knock this play's greatness down to it just being a good play, I think it deserves it's status as one of the greatest in NFL history. Joe was a step or two from being out of bounds then just sailed that pass high. I always think it's going to be incomplete, before Clark leaps up just high enough to grasp it and pull it in. If he didn't catch it, they would've only had one more shot to get it in. This play is one of the most clutch you'll ever see, and started a dynasty for San Francisco

This one play started the 49ers dynasty in the 80s classic.

I'll never forget that catch. Brings back wonderful memories. Now the 49ers have QB Purdy and his passing style is just like Montana's.

Moments after the catch Too Tall Jones said to Montana, "You just beat America's team." Joe Montana responded "Well now you can sit home with America and watch the Super Bowl."

Saw this live on TV; my whole neighborhood in the Bay started to scream in euphoria.

A little known boy named Tom Brady was in those seats no one could’ve predicted what would’ve happened next

Dwight Clark’s nonchalant/matter of fact spike of the football is underrated. I’d even call it The Spike after The Catch

That was a great game winning play but also, one of the most brilliant drives of all time. Dallas was playing zone earlier in the drive and the Niners ran the ball because the DB's were playing pass.

Tears. Every time. I remember listening to this on the radio when I was 12 (cause I was on restriction from the tv from my parents fml)

Great catch!

Another observation I had is how different people dressed back then when going to a football game. Now, its more casual and definitely more jerseys.

Vin Scully was the master at knowing when to let the crowd do the talking

I was born in 93. I wish I could have seen the Niners of the 80s and 90s. Would have loved to watch Joe Montana play live. I hope Lance can be that sort of great qb. This season will be our season. Bang bang Niner gang!

Greatest Play In Pro Football History!!! And I'll tell you why. It's because everything changed because of it. The Cowboys went downhill, and the 49ers dynasty began!
