Funny Or Die is Sorry for Lying about Hoverboards

Funny Or Die recently teamed up with a group of celebrities for an elaborate prank to convince the world hoverboards were real and that a company called HUVr Tech had invented them. Sadly, we were lying. The great promise of Back to the Future II has not been fulfilled ... yet. And for that, we truly are sorry.

It wasn't a "prank" or "Hoax" - the whole thing, including this video, were all planned to raise awareness and public interest in researching actual hover technology.

I've been an inventor since I watched "Back to The Future" movies. The hoverboard shown in Back to The Future was one of my inspirations to develop an anti-gravity prototype. I then realized that it requires an energy power source that didn't exist then and doesn't exist to this day, or at least in the public world. This summer I'll be testing a new source of energy that could very well power an anti-gravity module that will be required to make the hoverboard from the movie a reality. This video was rad, I am glad you guys did it! Someone finally pulled a prank so good that almost everyone who saw it believed it haha! Tony Hawk, and Christopher Llloyd are both totally awesome people! Oh, and Bringing back the Delorean was super rad, made the prank so perfect haha!

This was a really convincing prank.  Bravo!  
My sense is that it backfired a bit because so many people really did believe it or wanted to believe it was real.  A prank is funny when you can laugh at yourself afterwards. But if you just feel like you have been duped, it's not so funny.  
Anyway, no hard feelings from me.  Back to the Future is still one of my favorites!
