I was seven when I saw this. Honestly, I can't remember seeing on anything TV when I was a kid that scared me nearly as much. It kept me up for days! I remember once seeing this scene years later on some tribute to science fiction TV shows hosted by Robin Williams, and they kept cutting between Shatner and Williams with identical looks of terror on their faces.

First saw this on TV in 1968. I was 5 and these scenes terrified me. For many years I always wondered what "movie" it could have been. Finally discovered that it was this Outer Limits episode. Seeing it at an older age, I tried to analize what was it about this that scared me so much? I watched so many scary shows and movies in my childhood, and none affected me like this. I think it was Shatner's over-the-top fear that made it so scary to me. I mean, as a child, grown-ups aren't supposed to be scared of anything, right? So, between that, the creepy music & sounds, and how the fog lets you slowly anticipate the appearing of the alien creature. Classic stuff, nobody makes stuff like this anymore.

What I find kind of intriguing, however, is the alien's behavior. It doesn't seem to be aggressive, but merely curious/inquisitive towards Shatner. I've heard some people speculate that the Venusian was in fact benign, and simply tried to establish communication with him, while the "contamination" was unintentional.

I saw this when it first came out on T.V., I was 8 years old in 1964 and the scenes of that alien terrified me so much that I could not sleep for several nights. Yes, it looks a bit silly by today's standards, but watching this again I can still feel a bit creeped out by it.

This one scene scared the living shit out of me and freaked me out the rest of my childhood. Not so bad now. Brilliant screenplay though!

No one could do cheesy ham like Shatner. Chewing the scenery ? He could munch a whole set.

This scared the crap out of me when I was 10 back in 1964 and had nightmares for a month.Looks silly now but I always thought the alien looked like a cross between a feather duster and a crazed pineapple.!😅After seeing this I was afraid to look out my window. We lived in the country near a cemetery and that kept my imagination alive! And the music was terrifying .

One of my all-time favourite aliens, haunting and ethereal rather than some great lump going round eating people or zapping them with death-rays. Such a simple effect, but a design masterpiece letting the imagination do the work: what is it? What does it want? Like others I didn't see it as malevolent, but it was certainly spine-tingling. Imagine if it had been adopted into the Star Trek crew (perhaps communicating and operating the controls telepathically), that would have been fun!

I was born in 85, but im certain if I was a little kid sitting in front of my TV in the 60's this would have scared the crap out of me, there are sillier things that scared me as a kid, Xfiles, Alien movies, Chucky (lol). This would probably haunt me.
