What isn't being said here is that the liver will continue to work until it is overwhelmed by the mets. Then is starts to shut down, rapidly. Tiny red-spots on the skin. Itchy skin. Can't keep anything down. Fluid build-up in thoracic cavity; dramatic weight loss. Cognitive function becomes impaired, then stops. Death follows rapidly after that.

I'm sorry to be a buzz-kill, but any cancer that metastasizes leads to death, at some point. A broad spectrum of variables determines when, and the variables can be treated. But cancer is faster at finding a work around. It doesn't need a double-blind study to be approved.

My wife Elizabeth fought MBC for nine and a half years. The last year, she began to decline, but didn't drop off a cliff until about two months before she passed.

I read over her mammogram reports. In 2011 (her third scan) the radiologist suggested a biopsy would provide a definitive answer. My wife didn't get a biopsy until her 2013 mammogram showed a mass that was unusual. She had a biopsy in the fall of 2013. Basically, after two rounds of surgery and a forensic exam, she was confirmed to have metastatic breast cancer.

So, ANY unusual signs = biopsy. Don't wait. Don't deny. Be courageous - have the biopsy. Your chances are way better the earlier you catch the cancer before it spreads. Afterwards, it's just a matter of time.

If there is no biopsy done, can a scan be definitive of liver mets? Could it be showing benign tumors?
