ISIS-Inspired Plot to Attack NYC Jewish Center Foiled: Suspect Arrested Near U.S.-Canada Border

Показать описание
A 20-year-old Pakistani citizen living in Canada, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, was arrested for plotting a mass shooting at a Jewish center in New York City in support of ISIS. Authorities revealed that Khan had been planning the attack since November 2023, communicating with undercover agents online about his intention to target Jewish Chabads in Brooklyn around Yom Kippur in October 2024. Khan allegedly distributed ISIS propaganda and sought to form an offline ISIS cell to execute coordinated attacks, which he claimed would be the largest on U.S. soil since 9/11.
Khan also planned to use a human smuggler to enter the U.S. from Canada and was arrested just 12 miles from the U.S.-Canada border while attempting to cross using multiple vehicles. Authorities assured that at no point was he an immediate threat. His arrest was a result of the efforts by the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force and other federal agencies working to prevent terrorist acts before they materialize.
The Justice Department has charged Khan with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, and he faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. He will appear in Canadian court on September 13, as officials continue to investigate and ensure the safety of targeted communities in New York City.
