How Measles Vaccines Protect You From Other Diseases

Since measles vaccines started making their rounds, child mortality has dropped by up to 90% percent in some countries. That’s more than you’d expect if the measles vaccine just prevented deaths from measles. Can science explain this increased survival rate?

My great-grandmother survived polio, and struggled for the rest of her life. We had a president who survived polio and was crippled for the rest of his life. Measles was nearly eradicated. It would be one thing if there was actual science linking any of the claims about vaccines, but the problem is that there isn't and there never was. But somehow we're living in a world where we have 150-200 years of science saying "oh we literally have this thing that prevents this disease that killed hundreds of thousands of people for like 500 years" but people are going to trust random internet posts that are based on a proven false study from a man who forged his data, and was proven to have done so. And so now in 2019, we have measles outbreaks and whooping cough outbreaks... Hey let's throw some mumps and some yellow fever in there, maybe some dysentery and sprinkle some cholera in for that olde tyme horribole disoaese outbreak extravanganza.

All the hospitals in my area were on lock down from visitors for the inpatient pediatric wing of the hospital because of a flu outbreak so if you barely sounded sick you were still kicked out of the inpatient pediatric wing of the hospital unless you were parent or guardian.

I’m 74 and didn’t suffer measles as a child, but do test positive for exposure. What I want to know is if I should get the vaccine. My husband was in my same circumstances, but contracted the disease as an adult and it was a severe case. Because of my age and health issues, though minor, I want to have the vaccine, but my doctor with Kaiser disagrees ~ she just doesn’t think I need it. Can someone tell me where to get a more educated opinion on this? And if I obtained it outside my healthcare system, could getting it carry negative risk?
