Het Nederlandse televisieprogramma "Countdown" was van 1976 t/m 1993 “Europe’s Number 1 Rock Show” en werd uitgezonden bij Veronica. Later werd het programma ook uitgezonden in het buitenland en was het op z'n hoogtepunt in meer dan 20 landen op televisie te zien.

Gedurende deze 17 jaar muziekgeschiedenis zijn er opnames gemaakt met talloze internationale sterren, zoals Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.

Uiteraard kwamen Nederlandse top-acts als Doe Maar, Andre Hazes, Herman Brood, Frank Boeijen, Spargo, Golden Earring, Time Bandits, De Dijk, De Raggende Manne, Hans de Booij, Gerard Joling, Drukwerk ook langs voor een optreden in Bussum.

Countdown werd gepresenteerd door oa Lex Harding, Erik de Zwart, Adam Curry, Simone Walraven Wessel van Diepen, Jeroen van Inkel, Rob Stenders, Simone Angel en Jasper Faber.

Ce son était incroyable en 1990. J'avais tout juste 20 ans et ça matchait parfaitement, il y avait comme un truc évident à écouter ça. On ne pouvait pas mieux anticiper ce que l'électronique permettait de faire à ce moment-là, et ce qu'elle allait devenir ensuite. C'était pile-poil "dans l'époque", mais avec un tout petit peu d'avance sur tout le monde. Ca a été un carton instantanément pour des millions de personnes.
Je serai quand même curieux d'entendre ça vraiment Live, pas en Play Back comme dans cette émission... ;) Mais ce serait dur de reproduire ça sur scène quand on sait que c'est le duo légendaire Harris/Lewis et Fatboy Slim himself (alias Norman Cook) les créateurs de cet énorme tube de Beats International. Déjà cette grande manie de mélanger les titres. Ici, quatre d'entre eux ont servi à construire ce hit de 1990, qui s'appelait au départ "The Invasion Of The Estate Agents" (sorti en 45T un an avant) :
1. The S.O.S Band "Just Be Good To Me" en 1983 (pour les paroles, chantées par Lindy Layton)
Mais surtout...
2. The Clash "Guns Of Brixton" (pour la ligne de basse !)
3. Ennio Morricone "The Man With The Harmonica" (pour... l'harmonica !)
4. Johnny Dynell "Jam Hot" (pour les percussions !)
