Singing through the break and focusing the 'ah' vowel
Subscribe

When we learn to sing through our breaks, also known as the secondo passaggio we often find that certain vowel sounds prove more challenging than others. In this video, I take you through the entire process of learning how to negotiate the break through exercises that will help focus the ee, ay and ah vowels and increase endurance through it.

Some sections of this video can take quite a bit of time to master, take it slowly and build on your successes!

For those that want to jump straight away to the 'ah' vowel, that occurs about half way through, though I want to encourage you to start with the exercises that incorporate the ng sound.

Thanks for watching!

Adding that 'ng' in front of some of the vowels seems to be is giving solid strength to the note and voice on the whole. Amazing!

Probably the most helpful video I've seen on YouTube on the subject of passaggio for tenors. Thank you so much for making this!

thank you so much for expansive collection of videos. I've purchased an online course from a fellow YouTuber who has an impressive body of knowledge, yet still I find your videos even more helpful. Thanks again for articulating your understanding of music in such a clear and concise manner. Much love

I subscribed. Thanks for your warm ups and musical vocabularies. It brings back my tonal range, although not the maximum range because I am older. GOD bless always. Thank you so much.

Jeff!!! Jeffrey!!! My Brosickle!!! You nailed it with this lesson. This is my problem range and I needed this. I struggle with relaxing the tongue. Thank you so much for taking the time to help.

I must say this is completely awesome Jeff! I could not ask for a better guide in this practice! I especially love it when you say " one more just for practice". Love it Love it Love you bud and thank you for keeping me in the practice and the giving music. I play bass and sing the high harmonies and you have really helped me to develop strength and understanding of my voice to where I no longer lose my voice by the end of the night. Also, the physiology of the practice is super beneficial to all aspects of life...

fantastic stuff and great camera work!!! I do appreciate the extra effort of changing camera angles very much and it helps a lot if I can get a view on the claviature from time to time. thank you!

This is a great video Jeff! I am finding the only way to make these transitions comfortably and without sacrificing the quality and consistency of tone is to lighten up bigtime in the upper registers. Also, starting in the lower registers gently in the ascending exercises without any pressure makes the ability to further lighten up in the upper registers much smoother and easier psychologically.

These videos are great!
I am having an issue that, on some days, I can cover the tenor range well, while on other days, not so much. On those days, singing anything higher than even an E4 is virtually impossible. Oddly enough, when I do lip trills, I seem to be able to easily sing the notes up to B4, even on the bad days. What gives?

I'm a soprano having register change problems. I happened on your tenor warm up and it is getting to the 'nitty gritty' of my breaks,  right where I sound terrible. My hope is if I continue these exercises  I can over come this issue. Thank You Jeff I will keep you posted. This has really been a problem for me for some time now.

What would be great is to hear how these exercises sound throughout their range, not just at the starting pitch
