Предельное невежество!!! На узких и острых гребнях идут на длинную веревку. Это азбука для начинающих. Если один линяет вниз у его напарника всегда будет запас времени и веревки что б прыгнуть в другую сторону. У нас это называлась "Комсомольская страховка". А так на коротке он второго просто сдернет за собой и пи...ец обоим.

Having climbed easier stuff with ice axes and crampons, would it be safer to just straddle the ridge? (I know it'd be slower, but damn)

Are these climbers correctly belaying each other?? Check the ropes at 1minute +

Then they had to reverse it. Nightmare scenario but then wild horses wouldn’t get me up there.
