I'm 42 years old and I've been in construction my entire life I've been worked like a mule since I was 12 and my body has paid the price. I do not want my kids to end up like me or their grandfather for that matter so I think slowing down a little could be a good thing the problem is most of these kids don't want to work at all nowadays.

As a gen z boss/owner of a business. I dont relate to my generation much and don't usually hire them.

It’s ironic that Gen Z is hyper focused on mental health. Yet year after year, over the course of the last decade, mental illness has increased.

I’m gen Z myself and had a gen Z boss and sometimes he was cool but a lot of times he was irritating because he would stay upstairs on his desk watching tic tok all day and when he’s downstairs he will talk to his favorite co workers about video games or anime films. Never handled situations between co workers even when I was mistreated he still would never do anything but STAY up stairs on TIC TOK smh 🙄

Less hierarchical means less effective.
Hierarchy is an absolute necessity for group collaboration to achive goals.

Anyone here ever had a boss? They absolutely have those leadership qualities. I've never worked for any boss or manager who truly had any idea what was going on. I've never worked for a Gen Z manager, but I've worked with a lot of Gen Z colleagues. They take a lot of "mental health" days. I'm Gen X - our mental health days are also called days off or the weekend.

I'm an older GenX. Just over five years to retirement. I'm an HR Manager and currently work with a team where all but two are Gen Z. I feel like these people are my children and my sole purpose is to keep their emotions in check. This is my first exposure to Gen Z and all I can say is I'm glad I'm close to retirement. This is exhausting.

I work with Gen Z in a corporate environment and there’s a few things that stand out - lots of uhhs and mmms in meetings, lack of attention to detail, lack of care, lack of professional ambition or motivation, generally poor work, poor writing and communication skills.

Managing Generation Z employees is like herding lazy cats. It was so maddening and I had to be overly careful how I dealt with them (hint, I work in an embedded DEI workplace). They don't want to show up, and when they do they wonder why they aren't running things. Hurt feelings over just about everything. I couldn't fathom working for one.

Maybe the article touches on it, but the real question is how is this Z-run business doing? Is this business making money, or is a a start up still coasting on investor money or the boss' trust fund, and will be gone is a year.

I have a 27 year old kid working for me. Well for now anyway. He has called me and said he’s not emotionally well and cannot make it in several times. I think emotionally unwell is code for hungover. 😂

Mental health appears to now have taken over physical health in importance - this is so dangerous and unfair on those of us who have fought against physical disability to make a full contribution to business and society.

We had meetings about feelings at work back in 2002. Keep in mind we made car parts, which have no ability to give any amount of shits about feelings.

Being gen z with zero social media is so much different than being a gen z with all social medias, some of us are living in real life while the rest live in delusions. 24 is a weird age man; especially being active in real life because you just see how much everyone is distracted

I've started hiring for my kitchen. One applicant from the Gen-Z listed everything that she's cooked on her CV. She wrote 'water' three times. Spelt differently each time. She also mentioned Toast, Cheese on Toast, Beans on Toast, Tomato's on toast. Along with a lot more. I'm convinced it was just a joke, at least i hope it was.

Gotta love our gynocentric culture where everything is all about feelings 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’ve worked in restaurants my entire life and have seen the changes in how the young employees act over the years. And I agree 100% with the characterization of Gen Z employees by those surveys. They show up dressed like shit in old baggy clothes, talk openly about how they don’t give a fuck and put in minimal effort. Many of them lack the most basic knowledge of food, like what ordinary ingredients and cooking methods are. And to top it all off, they have zero practical restaurant skills (like carrying plates and glass, changing a keg, using a POS etc). Then get upset when the restaurant won’t give them the shifts they want or promote them or something. Imagine that
