Got to say this video doesn’t at all take into account the biggest recent change at Google, which is not OpenAI or Perplexity or any other 3rd party offering but their own turning away from search and prioritised results in favour of poorly implemented AI synopses and yet another cash-grab reach into both sellers’ and buyers’ pockets. I’d concentrate on that if I were you instead of what are, for now at least, mostly irrelevant distractions. The one to worry about is Google. They’re nobody’s friend.

I have always loved Google (YouTube included). I still see it as the top choice for most shoppers, but over the past few years we've all encountered a huge problem. Fake review generators. The amount of 2-4 star rated businesses that suddenly have 4.9 or 5 stars is staggering. Also, new franchise companies move in and start with over 100 5 star reviews. There's something not right going on. This is cheating the consumer for both home services and products decisions . Small local businesses are being pushed out by huge corporations faster than ever before and very unethically.
If you do some research, you'll find many companies using the word local when they are actually owned in another state or country. Hopefully Americans will stand up for honesty and work together to support one another. I don't see mom and pop shops often anymore. The covid scam that made small businesses shut down while Amazon, Dollar General and Walmart stayed open, to the fake reviews on huge corporations accounts, we are losing as a country.

I miss the early 2000s when search engines were just that. No one worried about SEO, and random forums, blogs, and personal websites would show up in your searches.

There is still no substitute for “business near me” and the power of Google reviews to find local businesses and restaurant reviews.

Google used to have 1000s of pages of results. Now, google gives < couple of dozen of page results.

I think you're right about the piggyback thing. Chat got search does avoid all the noise on the google search but seems to only display three options after a search ie "primary care near me" it only shows three choices.

For a business model, search GPT must have search biases, similar to Google. How else will the companies draw revenue to itself? It will have to be just another search engine with sponsored searches.

I hate what google has become and im waiting impatiently for something which could get the quality google had 10-15 years ago. And im sure that others do the same. As soon as this something appears google will die as fast as the pre google era search engines did when google became well known.

I mean, I imagine that most people have the same experience and journey I did with LLMs, where at first I think, “Oh my gosh, this is so useful, and I can use it in so many things!” and then as you start actually doing that, you start realizing, “Oh shit, this LLM doesn't actually know what the fuck it's suggesting! It's causing me more problems than just researching the traditional way!” And then I pretty much stopped using them altogether. I mean, they're still somewhat useful for like trying to figure out the name of some obscure thing that you can only describe, but beyond that, like using it for a project of some sort? They're garbage.

LOOOONG story short, businesses have nothing to worry about. Nothing is really changing. Most people will still use Google. Only technical needs will use the other stuff.
