This song celebrates the battle of Albulena an ambush by the League of Lezhë led by George Kastrioti, also known as Skanderbeg.

The battle happened in the eponymous city, and saw Skanderbeg fighting against his own nephew Hamza, who had switched sides and converted to islam a few years prior, and Ottoman commander Isak Bey Evrenoz. The Albanian party, numbering around 8 thousand men, managed to get the upperhand due to Skanderbeg's knowledge of the terrain, and ended up utterly destroying Evrenoz and Hamza's army, which was up to 10 times larger.

Skanderbeg would go on to resist the Turk for the rest of his life, with Venetian and Austrian support, and the Sultan only managed to conquer Albania after her protector had passed away.

Skanderbeg, together with Vlad III of Wallachia, immensely helped the rest of Europe by inflicting moral losses on the Turk, who had just captured Constantinople. Without them, the Turkish horde would continue its way upwards without stopping.

For anybody that doesn’t know what Albulena is, it’s a place which in Albanian is called Ujëbardhë (white water). The Battle of Albulena saw Skenderbeg (p.b.u.h 🫡) land one of his most decisive blows on the battlefield against the Ottomans, in a battle that was disproportionate in numbers. The Battle of Albulena marked one of the highest points in Albania’s resistance against the Ottoman Empire.
