A B.C. couple is encouraging others to report scams and extortion attempts to police after they were bilked out of nearly $300,000 by someone they thought was a family friend. The man who scammed Judy and Bernie Lehmann was eventually caught, but the couple says it's unlikely they will ever see their money again.

Thats the problem in Canada. Rhey dont see this aa a real crime.if he stole from a bank oe defrauded CRA it woukd not be house arrest ir woukd be years in jail and foriture of property.

9months house arrest what the heck is that he just got off.
now on disability more free money. it's a shame that this happened the judge and prosecutors failed them

Really, you didn't go to the police in the beginning. Sorry, but actions have consequences. That I know from first hand, it's hard to hear, but chalk it up and move on.
