I saw Miles live a couple of times but Chaka got him to do something that I never saw him do, smile. This is a beautiful performance.

The Only Person that could make Mile Davis smile...Empress Chaka Khan
Amazing Music History

Miles was not one to share his stage with a vocalist, so this is a rare and very special occasion. Go Chaka!

People can say what they like, you will NEVER get the opportunity to see this ever again. Those who were there, lucky lucky lucky 🙏🏼

This song was written by Steve Porcaro of Toto. The Toto guys were basically the studio band for the Thriller album, and co-wrote and arranged this song.

Chaka still looks exactly the same, actually a little bit better, 35 years later. She is so amazing. This is the music I grew up on and I miss it so much. Michael Jackson was such a brilliant person.❤❤ to see Miles Davis and Chaka Khan perform Michael Jackson together at the same time is why I love the Internet!

Love this! Miles isn’t quite hitting everything he wants though and Chaka starts off a little rocky and you can tell she’s nervous but that’s what live music is all about!

I've always admired Miles for giving his horn a human voice.

The guy in the white hat you see Miles standing really close to is a a musician named Foley. He played a bass with baritone guitar strings that were tuned an octave higher than a regular bass (basically a 4 string guitar with more bite, don't ask me why)Foley called it the "lead bass". Miles saw something in him and his playing, and they developed a close relationship on stage despite Foley feeling like he only learned how to improvise toward the end of his time with Miles. I always love watching them on stage and seeing Miles mentor him as they play together. Two very unique players learning from each other while making beautiful music. It's so special ❤️

Cute lead and follow with Miles and Chaka. Loved his face like "Got her!" Anyone thinking that Chaka was out of her league here is sadly mistaken. She is one of the most prolific Jazz singers, and the lift that she has in her upper register is incredible. She easily scales up to a B5 without even using her head voice, and her total range is ridiculous. She clearly didn't know the song, as she came out with written lyrics, and was enjoying the improv. I will say had she known the song better, it probably would have been a different performance. But they had fun, and it was a nice set. #mastersinsession

Many, many, many years ago my brother (who loves & collects records of every genre) got tickets for a tiny little venue in Denver called Ebbett's Field - it seated under 100. I had just graduated high school & was visiting him for a couple weeks. He took me to a concert at Ebbett's... it was Mr Miles Davis. Little did I know at the time that I was witnessing a legend. He was truly amazing. 🎺💐💞
