My interpretation of Tony Butler's startlingly good bass line from the Big Country hit, 'Wonderland'

Gear used - Chowny SWB-1 bass with GHS strings through Sansamp Paradriver recorded DI'd. Fred Kelly picks.

I'm a Big Country fan of over 30 years, and I don't know...maybe there was something about the original mix of Wonderland - I appreciated a lot of what Tony Butler was doing, but I just didn't hear all of it. Watching this video, it's like discovering there was a whole other song hidden inside there all this time, in the melody of these bass lines. I'm not surprised, because I know Tony is a genius, but to find something new to appreciate about a song I've loved and thought I knew by heart - an amazing experience. Thank you for doing these.

Tony Butler has to be the most criminally under rated bass player of all time, the parts he wrote are absolutely class. His regular use of chords on the bass to fill up the melodic parts being played by the guitars, and the way he always manages to use the notes you expect to hear, but in a slightly different groove than you expect to hear them, literal genius. Big shoes to fill !

I'm biased, but this is probably the greatest ever bass play along on you tube. OUTSTANDING

When I went to Big Country concerts I always went to Tony's side of the stage just to watch the Fretboard Olympics. Great cover.

Utterly fantastic. I hope you can do "Restless Natives" and "Belief in the Small Man" at some point; those, I think, are two of Tony Butler's greatest bass parts.

As you commented elsewhere, Tony Butler's bass is often buried in the mix. Your interpretation is nothing less than (bloody) brilliant.

Stunning cover. The bass tone is killer, and punch is just what the tune needs.

Wonderful performance! I've long been a fan of Tony Butler's "dancing bass line, " as I like to think of it, so I really appreciate this chance to hear it in all its glory. "Look Away" features a similarly lively bass line, so if you're taking requests, I'd love to see that one highlighted in a future video. Thank you!
