I adopted a tortoise from an owner who painted her shell blue 2 years ago. After copious amounts of cleaning, there’s still blue left. Please don’t paint you tortoises.

I don’t understand why people do this. Turtle shells are beautiful as they are. This just makes it look so tacky AND it’s abusive. 😢

Remember: the turtle is not in its shell, it is the shell! The shell is actually the turtle’s spine and back bones. So really, you’re doing a lot more harm on these green friends 🐢

Edit: Just wanted to further elaborate on the fact that these green friends have nerves in their shells (which is their spine and ribs), too. So they can literally feel you when you touch their shell.

A shell isn’t a thing on its own, its the turtles body, they can feel pain ( some “rescue” vids of people pulling barnacles off of their bodies 😒 but it’s actually them glueing to it back)

This is actually worse than just paint. The turtle you saw at the beginning was epoxy coated as a young turtle. Meaning the paint couldn’t even chip off.

I blame the fact that society raised kids into thinking shells were just "little houses" turtles stayed inside. What really should have been taught is "No, that's not a house, that's basically its skin and is living tissue like the rest of it.

People need to stop painting and dyeing animals. The fish trade in other countries is notorious for dipping fish in bad chemicals to dye them. Which strips the fishes slimecoat and stresses them to death.

Florida is actually very serious in protecting our wildlife. As you can see in the last slide there is a number to call or text to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee.

For example, you are not allowed to harass or even touch manatees and you will be caught and fined. Too many people come here and do not realize how serious we are about our wildlife and then have their vacation/holiday ruined. Don't mess with the wildlife!
