Rewicking an Optimus 8R

Here's a video to tide my subscribers over for a bit while I work on a Optimus 8R rebuilding video pair. (Love you subscribers!) This was actually a video for a client job I completed recently, but I thought it looked nice. Sorry about the lack of explanation and low production value. The holiday season has me pretty distracted. Stay tuned for more video in 2019!

Is the mesh really necessary? The Svea doesn’t use a mesh, does it?

Hi BernieDawg, Fist off I enjoy all your videos Working on a 8r with the round control knob that wont run right, put a cap on from a working stove same just a very small flame
so pulled the wick out and there is a very fine brass screen 1 1/2 long with the wick inside of that inside of the tube is that a factory thing?

Hi BernieDawg. This is a general question suggested by your rewicking video. I bought an 8R new about 35 years ago. Only used it 2 or 3 times so it's in mint condition. A close inspection (without disassembling it) suggest all is in factory order. However, when I brought it out a few weeks ago. I can't get a good blue flame and the flame even goes out after ten or fifteen minutes. I thought this could be due to the wick, but it seems to be in A1 condition. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance.
