Afford is realative aince rhis is what lenders want. It does not account dor most people needing to save 15 percent toward retirment and an efund.

Where are you living for 300k? For that price it’s usually a fixer upper. 300k you get a 2 bedroom coop on the top floor in a building with no elevators.
