Welcome to Knowledge By Nature!

In today’s video, I will be doing a flip-through for Volume 2: Anatomy of Sassafras Science produced by Elemental Science. This curriculum is a wonderful option for families that love read alouds and story-like-spines.

Elemental Science kindly sent me Volume 2 of Sassafras Science for my honest review. I am not new to Sassafras Science as this was the curriculum, I decided to purchase for our 1st-grade year. We enjoyed it so much it was easy to know what to move on to next. Even tho I received Volume 2 at no cost to myself, it is honestly a curriculum I would have purchased again with my own funds anyways, so you can believe when I say I love this curriculum I really do.

You can find Sassafras Science Adventures here:
Anatomy Volume 2 Link:
(As of 4/6/21 Sassafras Science Adventures Bundles & Combo Set’s are On Sale!)
I hope this is video is a huge help to someone, and I hope that at the end of this I also can decide which program I will be using going forward.

In our homeschool we love books, reading aloud, and finding a curriculum that works for us.
We homeschool year-round while taking breaks when needed or wanted.  We take a small summer break but summer homeschool is filled with gameschool, nature school, outdoor schooling, unschooling and lots of fun!
Homeschool is a different journey and path for every homeschool and we hope you enjoy following along in our journey and that something we share can be a help for you!

Thank you for doing this review!

We are using Sassafras Zoology right now. My son LOVES it. He literally sleeps with his Kingfisher encyclopedia and got an easter basket full of schleich animals. Its a HUGE hit in my home.

Next year we are going to use Elemental Science biology grammar stage for the first semester then transfer back to Sassafras anatomy.

Elemental Science company if you read this comment please, we need the twins to discover dinosaurs!

We are currently wrapping up our 1st year homeschooling and at first I 100% dismissed using living books as spine because "how are children supposed to learn from listening to stories"? And after this year I have seen just how much my little one absorbed from the living books. We did history this way and read tons of nonfiction books for science and these were his favorites. Definitely gonna use this for our science this year😊 thanks

Great video. Thank you. Would anyone be able to tell me if the books could be read out of sequence please.

Great video. 👍. Does it come with an audio CD 💿 to read the story for you?

This looks so great! We just wrapped up chapter 7 of the Zoology book ( originally weren't planning to start it till fall 2021-2022...but my daughter wanted to start).haha.

We are doing it mainly as a read aloud (paste the animal in their habitat and color the animals based on if they're herbivores, omnivores, or carnivores). Sometimes we watch an extra YouTube video or do a craft, but my kids are young (4yo and 2yo) and we'll hold onto this and the guide and maybe do it again in more depth in the future. But my oldest is learning so much and YES! The geography exposure is so awesome. We find on our globe where the twins were when we left our last read and then trace with our finger where they have traveled to next!). :)

Thank you for this in depth look at Sassafras. I agree with you about the blank pages, it drives me crazy too! I love the idea of taking the book apart and putting into a binder. Such a great reminder you gave to only do what works for your schedule or what your child is interested in. I am so excited to add this into our curriculum and seeing your video really helped solidify the decision. ♥️

My 2nd grader son has already completed a Zoology curriculum and I feel like he may not get anything out of volume 1. Would we be okay to just skip to vol 2? We haven't done much with anatomy.

I know their website recommends this for K-5th grade. I wonder how it would work for an older student. I'll have a 6th grader next year and just found out about this curriculum.

Hi, I went through the comments and didn’t see this detail listed: I just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that there are two options provided by this company, 1) Scidat Log and 2) a Lapbook option.

Hi! This is such a good and detailed video! Thank you for making it. I hate Science but Sassafras was just recommended to me as a more doable Science curriculum for me. It seems so great I might actually start liking it.
What I dislike the most are labs and hands on activities. So if you don’t do those, you can’t fill out some of the lapbook pages?

Or buy the pdf and only print the pages that you want to do? Just a thought in regards to the logbook since you keep mentioning not wanting to waste the pages. ;)
