If it is possible to add sodium(solid) and cl2 (g) directly as you finally said in this video, then why we convert sodium into gaseous state and lose one electron (why we follow that process as you said first in this video) .

I've always had that DOUBT that in electron affinity it is represented by the symbol minus (-), but is the value also considered to be in negative terms, like when it releases energy it is exothermic so in minus ??? pls clear
