This reminds me of a statement by Ralph Waldo Emerson in that essay of essays "Self-reliance". In it he asks...

"Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood."

Being "misunderstood" is part and parcel of becoming what you are supposed to become. Embrace that reality, learn to channel it's energy, and you who were once misunderstood will become iconic.
