100% obstructing objectively. I played catcher for 18 years. As a catcher it isnt but as an umpire it is. He is blocking the plate before ge receives the ball. He stratels the line before its thrown. If you had slow mo it would be clear as day. You must give a lane until you recieve the ball or u less ball takes you into the path he steps in the lane before the ball is ready to be recieved.

It’s an out. Once you posses the ball you can be in the base path. He can stay in the base path without the ball as long as he doesn’t obstruct the runner. It was a great play by those kids

He inched forward to get into the way of the runner before he had possession of the ball, but he did make a play for the ball as well, idk really tough call ump might be right but but I’d much rather they don’t make that call

it is obstruction since they made a slide rule in almost every age group an the runner can't level the player blocking the direct path to the base they also changed the rule of blocking a base path of a sliding runner I was lucky enough to play when we still could of leveled that lil guy like a linebacker 🤷‍♂️

Safe because the catcher was in the way before he had the ball and that is obstruction.

Edit: The catcher cannot block the home plate until they have possesion of ball.
