Marines Board CH-53E Helicopters & MV-22B Ospreys (2021)

U.S. Marines with 3d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, execute an air assault aboard CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters and MV-22B Ospreys during exercise Castaway 21.1 from the Central Training Area to Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, on March 11, 2021. The CH-53E helicopter can transport 37 Marines but the addition of a center row allows the accommodation of a total of 55 troops. With the Osprey, which has the speed and range of a turboprop, the maneuverability of a helicopter and the ability to carry 24 Marine combat troops twice as fast and five times farther than previous helicopters, the MV-22B Osprey gives extra capabilities for Marine Corps air assault operations. Castaway 21.1 demonstrated Marine Corps ability to integrate with joint forces to seize and defend key maritime terrain, provide low-signature sustainment, and execute long-range precision fires in support of naval operations from an expeditionary advanced base.

This is definitely a time never to be forgotten. I hope they finally fixed the tail rotor disconnect coupling. Lost alot of friends because of that part!!! Yet still was an awesome time!!!

I have never been aboard an Osprey and have only looked admiring from afar, but the Super Stallion is a very special bird - yes, inside it's loud, there's a hell of a lot of vibration, and it may even appear as a lummox of a beast, but upon touchdown and when a seemingly endless stream of Marines come piling out, it's the most beautiful thing on the face of this good Earth.
