Paula Hammond is a phenom. She’s the department chair of chemical engineering and David H. Koch Chair Professor of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She’s built batteries with viruses as well as materials for stopping bleeding on the battlefield. And now she’s bringing her chemical insights and expertise to the fight against cancer. At the American Chemical Society’s national meeting on Aug. 26 in San Diego, Hammond reflected on the mentors and mindset that have propelled her remarkable career.
