Yeah its real.. i tried this also in my redmi 5a and its still functioning.. i brought it from lazada..

.the only problem is the moisture from a camera lens.. it took days to be back the camera in good condition due to moisture....

...but still it is water resistance....

Please know the phone may be able to withstand water for quite a time but it doesn’t mean that the phone wouldn’t corrode/rust
They do rust if the water somehow managed to leak into the phone’s internal circuitry, to check if they are water damaged, try taking out the SIM card of the phone 📲 and see if it has changed colors,
If it does show signs, try placing the phone in a way which it is covered in rice (dry) so it can absorb the mixture,
To be safe you have at least 1 week to back up all your data in your phone before it corrodes/rust .

Dont do this at home. If you have accidentally dropped your phone to the water immediately turn it off and don't charge it or plug a headphone into the audio jack. Let it dry first before doing anything to the phone!
