I'm Switching to Apple for 30 Days...

I have a love-hate relationship with Apple products. For example, I'm big fans of certain iPhones and Macbooks - especially with M chips! However, I've never fully switched from a PC to a Mac before. Can I survive 30 days without my Windows machine?

It's been well over 30 days, when is the update video coming out?

Apple products are my "get out of tech support free" card. Whenever friends and family ask about their iproblems, I just say "sorry, I don't know anything about Apple products" with a clean conscience.

My jaw hit the floor when I saw those RAM and storage upgrade prices. Absolutely preposterous, the Apple Tax is.

You know he’s serious because he bought the Magic Mouse. That’s commitment.

What happened with the experience? I didn't see a follow-up video.

I was forced to start using a MacBook at work because my company supports both Windows and Mac. To say it was difficult is putting it lightly, lol...but now I just have two laptops, a Lenovo Carbon X1 and a MacBook Pro.

I know my comment will not be popular. I was a windows guy up until I retired from the USAF. My parents are elderly and them being on a windows based computer was incredibly difficult to deal with. They were always getting viruses etc.etc. After purchasing a MacBookPro and an iPhone, I was blown away at how easy they were and how they just worked. So I purchased my dad a 27" iMac and it has been a blessing. No longer do I get those tech support phone calls which would take hours. And the best part is if they have an issue I can remote into their computer and see whats going on. So simple. Bye bye windows.

At least I finally found one of your videos where I'm not jealous of the new gear you're rocking haha 😂

nothing related to tech...but I would love to see a video showcasing your watch collection. I've noticed you own some nice ones. If you get some time to make a video...i would love to watch...anyone else agree??

A workaround for the storage is fairly easy. Buy a regular NVME drive and an external caddy. I recommended this to one of my customers with their M2 MacBook. They still get blazing fast speeds on data transfers and actually editing photos.

I'm sure it won't be the worst experience, but I'd hate it. The transition between apple ecosystem and others, like android etc, it's just jarring

actually the storage does scale fine, in an very apple way. 512 -> 1T is $200, 1T-> 1.5T would have been another $200, and 1.5T -> 2T is another $200, so from 512GB -> 2TB would be $600 more. so it does add up in an very apple  way.

I’ve been using Apple computers since the early 90’s & the first thing I always do is buy a 3rd party mouse (usually a Logitech). Never use the Apple mouse!

They make 3rd party add on thunderbolt dock things, that are designed to sit under the studio or the mini, and add drive bays without just hanging an external drive off the back.

Agreed the storage upgrades are insane. I got the base 512gb Studio and got a 16TB external HDD for longer term storage, it’s pretty rare for me to fill up the built in SSD, I move files off it most days when I’m done

Holy cow those memory prices are insane. A Sabrent Rocket 8TB PCIE 4.0 drive is currently $1000 on Amazon and Apple wants $2400? (Or more realistically, they're charging $2400 for 7.5TB since the original .5TB is included in the base price). Or the same drive in 2TB is $130 where Apple charges $600?
If you don't need the speed, there's a Samsung QVO 8TB SATA drive for $335.

The RAM isn’t “soldered on” chips…. It is part of the SoC. Since it is in the main chip, it is a more difficult task compared to traditional PC the plan for the different memory need of customers. But the unified memory has performance benefits that the PC does not. That pool of memory can be allocated to the CPU or the GPU on the fly. Can you imagine having a system with 128 GB of RAM and the GPU can access that memory if it needs it… without the bottleneck of having to transfer data through a BUS!

it is hdmi 2.1 on the M2 Max... they just didn't want to pay for the certification 🙄, but it is to spec.
