Laelaps and the Cadmean Fox

Показать описание
another glimpse from Hunger Made You Brave- Laelaps and the Cadmean Fox
A fire scorched big sections of the mountains around my home. I thought the landscape would be an appropriate backdrop for this song- Laelaps and the Cadmean Fox.
Once upon a time there was a giant hunting hound named Lalaps that ALWAYS caught it's prey. Then one day a fox entered the picture. She was also a giant and was gifted with the skill to NEVER be caught...so they were locked in a paradox. The endless chase of chaos and destruction upset the locals, so Zeus stepped in and turned the fox and hound to stone and cast them into the heavens. It is said that the mega bright star Sirius is part of Laelaps.
The Fox is the narrator of this song. She is also a narrator in the longer story that weaves through my latest album 'Hunger Made You Brave’, where she spends a lot of time trying to pacify folks with anger issues.
Laelaps
What’s this paradox?
the one that always wins
chasing the one that can’t be caught white hot-
like the plot sewn by Gods and Kings
You are such a beast
with your snapping jaws
and your shining teeth
you said: yes fox, I see you in me
You were protection - I was retribution
faster then the wind and tougher than the seasons
You were golden and I was crimson
both duty bound beyond our own reasons
Laelaps, Laelaps, Laelaps...
This type of battle is less skill than vice
even the greatest victor pays the heaviest price
It’s ‘cadmean’ like the name I was given
before being turned to stone and tossed to the heavens
with Laelaps, Laelaps, Laelaps...
on the furthest edge of this milky river
you may burn brighter, but I burn deeper
on the furthest edge of this milky river
you may burn brighter, but I burn deeper
when all of those people gaze at the stars tonight will they see us as a dance or as a fight?
