Goodyear Welted Shoe Review: Grenson Rosebury

In a rare negative shoe review, although the leather is very nice, the style and quality just don’t do it for me.

I bought a pair of Grenson oxfords on ebay several years ago but sold them because the fit was wrong plus the toe lifted up like a Turkish curly toe! I bought a pair of Grenson Archie brogues (split welt) in a charity shoe for £15 and got a new heel and sole protector put on them. They are ok: I have had to have the sock liners re-glued in place. Not tremendously impressed with the brand and certainly wouldn't pay full price for them....

Sadly I had an issue with a pair of Grenson ‘Murphy’ boots last year. While I managed to get a refund, it was still very disappointing from Grenson. ☹️

With so many pairs of high quality / luxury shoes already, I don't feel it makes much sense to acquire more pairs at the level of Grenson 😅

I must admit, I don't "get" the triple welt either. Or a double welt for that matter. And Norwegian stitching looks ugly on a shoe IMHO and should only be used on rugged boots.
There seems a tendency to move away from the refinements developed over the decades and return to cruder and less refined footwear which makes sense when you're talking about PNW boots or similar, which need to be rugged but to me don't make sense on shoes that will be worn with smarter clothes. I think the same applies to many of the new leathers that have become available that are fine with "outdoor" boots but not really appropriate for dress footwear.

Yeah good review. Very shoddy looking shoe. That company isn't doing itself any favors with not only a subpar product but even worse customer service.
