I know this is all about switches, but when Linus mentioned Jake being on vacation all I could picture was Linus and Yvonne at home going "Man, it just feels like something's missing, doesn't it?"

The 'talking with Home Assistant' part makes me really happy. If more companies focused on doing what the Home Assistant folks wanted I'd be a happy boy indeed.

The fact that "Home Automation" has started to actually mean "locked out of your own home" doesn't surprise me at all. I bet a lot of people are more than happy to just stick with plain old switches after hearing about all these shenanigans, well done Jasco.

So Linus already had the latest firmware, but it was bugged in multiple major ways XD Jasco really killing it!

It’s so weird not giving out updated firmware. I’m in tech support and like half my calls involve pointing someone to the latest firmware and helping them update their device. If my company didn’t make new firmware available to fix bugs we literally would have gone bankrupt as people stop using our products.

Shame it took a high profile person having a problem for them to work on it....

Honestly i think they had a PR crap when they found out who they were telling to pound sand

I live for these types of videos. Please keep calling out anti consumer crap.

If they follow through with changing their stance, that is a good way to earn buyers. Everyone makes mistakes, but realizing they did, even if it took a Linus to bring it to their attention how big it was, and working to correct the problem for general consumers, is something I would consider when upgrading all my switches, which will be happening soon in my house.

Worked as a helper for a painter once. Can confirm, no masking tape used at all. My job was to go around with the roller, and he went around with the 3 inch brush to cover the rest.

As an electrician installing these devices every single day.... all of these types of devices right now are made for large commercial buildings where there are far less restrictions and where there is far more money in sales. Commercial buildings will likely be fine with timers for the work day and occupancy for after work hours. 2 simple parameters that are not enough for homeowners. The money is not in residential for this type of installation, so the software isn't built for it.

Yvonne is AWESOME!!!

I LOVE Linus' paint rants.

Learn something new every time.

I would consider a timeout to be the duration from the time it last detected motion until it stops *reporting* motion. Basically, detect motion (this point)...timeout countdown....report no motion (until this point).

I would consider a delay to be the duration from the time it reports not detecting motion until it will detect motion again.

No more half-measures Linus. Go all in on Home Assistant + ESPhome. It's the only way...

Full control over Software (hub), Firmware, and Hardware and endlessly configurable. Not to mention much, MUCH cheaper.

10:26 Linus makes a good point here. Painters will argue their methods but there comes a point where tape becomes excessive. It's really only helpful when paint is being sprayed on or when painting baseboards. Haven't heard this nightmare story before.

Linus is really un-selling me on home automation... I'm just gonna do it with plain old dumb motion sensors and good design.

Jasco got a free "consulting and testing" from Linus LOL 😂 If they managed to fix this issue, I think it's a good PR for them. Anyone can make mistakes, but they made a good move by actually listening to him. I doubt they will to others, but the fact they are willing to do something about it is good enough.

Your reasons for being frustrated are completely valid. You should be able to disable motion sensing or make it less sensitive.

However, Linus, the point of sensing motion is that you DON'T have to turn the lights out behind you. The idea is that you just leave the bathroom or wherever and and the lights go off after not sensing motion of X number of seconds.

Remember when Kmart had automatic doors that swung open? You didn't need to close them behind you bc they closed when the sensor detected no motion. The point is to not touch it at all. It's called automation for a reason.

For those that don’t like the look or feel of the Caseta, but want reliable smart switches, take a look at Lutron’s Radio Ra 3 system, much higher quality switches, real keypads in addition the the Pico remotes, and a higher maximum device count.

honestly the fact that the correct version of the firmware was bugged is even worse than poorly managed firmeware sharing with the community
