BEST NINTENDO SWITCH D-PAD (...is a PS4 controller?!)

Nintendo Switch! Why is it so difficult to find a good controller for using Switch when docked? Until now we've had the fairly good Hori D-Pad Joycon but it only works when handheld leaving us to need a different controller when the Nintendo Switch is docked. Is it really necessary that we buy an adapter and use a PS4 controller to make up for the lack of Switch Controller options?!

What do you think? Would you use this Hori Fighting Commander for playing platform games or fighting games? Tell me in the comments below!

Just wanted to let you know Hori made a native version of this controller for the switch now! I was thinking about picking it up hahaha

The 6 button layout was how all the street fighter arcade games were arranged. No one I knew ever used the 6 button controller with their index fingers in the 90's as far as I know

Some tips for people using these controllers:
-On the PS4 version used in this video, use "PC" mode whenever possible. It has the lowest lag in that mode, and is actually one of the fastest pads available because of it. Avg of 1.3ms with 1000hz polling on MiSTer FPGA.
-When playing non-fighting games or games where you would only use 2-4 buttons on the front of the controller, try using the right side 4 buttons instead of the left/inner 4. This can make moves easier and be more comfortable, depending on the size of your hand, and perhaps alleviate complications with techniques like the Mega Man dash jump demonstrated in the video @ 13:20

Great video overall, and reflects my own personal experience with this controller vs the other options you showed, including the 8bitdo M30. The m30 is great in some games, but those non-uniform buttons on the front make it less desirable in fighting games, and the classic saturn d-pad style isn't as good for charge characters and certain moves, because of the easier-to-hit diagonals at times, I've found.

Keep up the great content amigo. Appreciate it.
There are so many "faux-reviews" of these controllers it's unreal. Seeing controller movement data on-screen and actual real-world performance in a variety of situations besides the common-and-lazy "I can do hadokens" that most other videos limit it to, is important. 👍

This Hori Fight pad has been my #1 choice for the past 2 and a half years for Tekken tag 2 and Tekken 7. No issues at all though people say it only lasts for a few months. I've dropped it like a 100 times. Plus its a great Raspberry pi controller for retro games.

You can use the Nintendo Switch version on PS4/PS5 on Street Fighter V under the “Legacy controller” option. I know this is from a year ago but I thought I’d let anyone know

The Brooks adapter is very expensive. You can get a Mayflash Magic-NS and it will serve the same purpose for cheaper

My dad who was a teen in the arcades way back then actually prefers using home controllers with the 3 fingers style, even if it only has 4 face buttons.

Thank you so much for demonstrating instant air dashes, clean iads are my main criteria for judging a dpad. It's also the reason I want a hitbox so bad.

This is laid out like the Sega Saturn controller. The shoulder buttons can be used for 3x punches or 3x kicks.

I've been using this controller for all my emulation for the past 2 years. I cannot recommend it enough. The D-Pad is the best on the market.

For me, I love the Sega Saturn controller. It is by far the best controller for fighting.

I feel like you buy a new controller every video. Can you make a video where you show all your controllers?

This year there is a "Fighting Commander" for Nintendo Switch.

I bought this controller early last year when DBFZ came out and I absolutely love it. I played DBFZ and SC VI and I use it for emulators all the time. It's the best controller I purchased since the Switch Pro controller.

Yes, you're supposed to rest the right side of the controller on something (usually your leg) when using the claw grip for the buttons.

When I'm shopping for controllers, I typically check here first. Thanks!

In DBFZ you can reset training mode (touchpad) by pressing L3 and R3 at the same time so this controller is good for that

That controller is my secret weapon for fighting games 🤫

I love the Fighting Commander 4, but prefer the previous Hori release the Fighting Commander Pro. The D Pad can be adjusted. The drawback was you needed to tighten the DPad In place once you got it positioned where you like and excessive play would loosen it. If I’m not using a stick I use my PS2 Saturn Controller with an adapter.
