How to Propagate Tuscan Kale or Cavolo Nero From Cuttings

Показать описание
How do you propagate Tuscan Kale, Lacinto Kale, or Cavolo Nero?
This strategy requires a branch or stem of a mature plant, some snips or secateurs and some potting media. It takes around a month for them to be up and growing from when the cuttings are taken. You take a small section of stem, cut below a node and above a node. Place the cutting in potting media and keep it damp. I did use a small greenhouse lid in this example but did not include it in the footage.
The cuttings were taken from the lower section of the branches where larger leaves had previously been. Some had small leaves on the ready to grow. These were the most vigorous cuttings shown at the end of the clip.
Can I grow these from leaves?
From my experience, Cavolo Nero or Tuscan Kale leaves, when left in water, will produce roots. I have tried to pot them up but have not had success with the minimal leaves I have tried this with. Other varieties of kale can be successfully propagated using leaf shoot cuttings and relatives of kale like cabbage can be grown from leaves.
I have seen the small shoots produced on these stem cuttings potted up and striking so this method has the potential for many more successfully offspring.
