love that your showing off the altos for once. people are obsessed with sopranos and hitting those high notes, but i'm thinking that hitting those low notes are just as impressive and takes just the same amount of skill. i also just really think alto voices are cool. Tracy Chapman is my fave alto. I never regarded Taylor as an alto tho, more like a mezzo with just a wide range but idk. her newer songs show off her lower range so well, it's incredible. I've always considered myself an alto and i am struggling to hit those lowest notes in cardigan or champagne problems like how does she do it

I think Alto vs Baritone and Tenor vs Soprano would've been more apples to apples comparison. Alto parts are rarely written to be dynamic and interesting, sadly.

I like Taylors newer songs because the altos get to show off for once! Not everyone can hit those lows and sound good

To me taylor, adele and lady gaga are mezzos. In fact a ton of singers are mezzos, we just don't notice cause they have such large ranges

I remember being absolutely blown away when I saw Rascal Flatts live. Gary Levox is truly is an insanely talented singer

I think people regard Pavarotti as the greatest tenor of all time because of the technicalities of Opera singing. There's also the performance aspect of it and the delivery of the story.

Never realized until now how much Hugh Jackman looks like Pavarotti.

I gotta disagree with putting Mitch in the Alto section. He is a countertenor because he is a falsetto/head voice specialist. Countertenors have VERY strengthened head and falsetto voices so it's difficult to know when they switch from chest to head and falsetto making their range seem much wider. As for his tone, a lot of it comes from his nasal quality. I love Mitch and think he is an insanely good singer but he is definitely a countertenor.

Michael Jackson has many performances in which he sings live while also dancing (the bad and dangerous era)...idk who chose this clip...it's from the history era when Michael had laryngitis...

I would class Taylor as more of a mezzo soprano, but she has an amazing lower register. Even many of the vocal coaches I follow say how impressive her vocal range is. Yes she is one of the best songwriters of recent generations, but lets not forget that she is an amazing singer as well. Amazing singing isn't just about belting during a majority of your song and doing constant riffs throughout.

How could you not pick Bruno Mars?! His emotions and vocal abilities are insane LIVE! 😲😲

Definitely wish you had picked a clip from long pond for Taylor. Lover isn’t even that low and her voice in long pond like on mad woman and others are just wonderful. I get that copyright might’ve been an issue though *cough* disney *cough*

Maybe a hot take but the lead singer from rascal Flatts is the best singer on this entire video, including the legends. And not just because or his clean and impressive runs (I actually really hate the way modern music basically says “can you do runs? Yes, then you’re amazing. No, then you suck” cause there’s so much more to vocal technique then that). It’s because his voice is so clean and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever heard a pitchy note come out of his mouth. It sounds like a studio recording always. He has so much support and never sounds like he’s straining. He really is unbelievable and criminally underrated.

Freddy Mercury was actually a baritone. But he had a great range that allowed him to sing like a tenor.

Amy Winehouse is amazing! I love her tone and power in her voice.

i love seeing both mitch and a female tenor. i myself am a lady tenor (and sometimes baritone) and ive gotten SO much abuse from choir teachers who refuse to let me sing my voice. seeing at least one thats out there and was successful is nice. and seeing mitch get the wows he deserves is also awesome

you should give a listen to MJs You Were There, a song he sang in tribute to Sammy Davis Jr, really good example of how good his voice sounds live, another example would be Gone Too Soon at the Bill Clinton's inaugural gala
there's a lot more examples but these are the ones from the time period where he started making use of lipsync

To be fair, there are countless performances where MJ danced and sang live at the same time, especially if you look at the performances during the Victory Tour.
